Removing EON software

Uninstall EON Page

This page will help you to remove EON software including the EonX plug-in from your computer. It divides the instructions up into sections depending on the way in which you installed the software. If you don't know how the software was installed then just read each section and follow each instruction just to be sure.

Installation Via WebBrowser

EonX Plugin installed via Internet Explorer
This method of installation could have been so automatic that you did not realize that Eon was being installed. Or it may have been installed via a plugin page. The EonX plug-in is an ActiveXControl similar to Flash or Shockwave for instance. You may have seen a security warning dialog asking if it is ok to install the eonx.cab file. When you click on Yes to that question the EonX plugin was installed.
    To remove:
  1. Remove EonX 5.0.0. from the Downloaded Program Files directory.
Open Windows Explorer and look under your Windows directory. The windows directory could be called Windows or WINNT. Find the directory called Downloaded Program Files. This is where ActiveX controls are stored. Find the EonX 5.0.0 file, right click on it and choose Remove. You will get a popup question asking if you are sure you want to remove it. Click on Yes. This step is sufficient to stop EON content from being viewed and the plugin from being detected.

  2. Remove files from the EON directory. Under the Windows directory is another directory called EON. This is where Eon components are stored as they are downloaded, unzipped and installed on demand. You can remove this whole directory if you want. Though if you leave the files there then it will be quicker to install the plug-in next time.

Other EON Software - Manual Installations

EON Viewer, EON Studio, EON Raptor, EON FastView, EON Collosseum, EONForNetscape6
To remove any of this software, go via the Control Panel under Add/Remove Programs and select the name of the EON software and remove it.

If you have installed any of this software then you will be able to view EON content on Internet Explorer without downloading or installing any more software. If you have any of this software installed and want to use a browser other than Internet Explorer then all you need is one more file to put the browser's Plugins folder. This file is npEonXPlugin.dll.

This is all you would be required to do to uninstall UNLESS you have viewed web pages that have EON content requiring newer versions of EON than what you had installed. If this is the case then you need to review the uninstall methods regarding installation via web browser above.

If you find that there are files and folders left in the installation folder of EON software then these may disappear after restarting your computer. If they don't then it probably means that these were files added manually, which the uninstall program has no permission to remove.

Removing EON Simulation Configuration from Control Panel
If you have uninstalled EON software but still see an icon in the Control Panel called EON Simulation Configuration then it will disappear automatically after restarting your computer. To remove it manually remove the file called EONControlPanel.cpl from the Windows/system32 folder.

Uninstalling Registry Settings.
There is a program in Windows OS called regedit where you can edit and remove your computer settings. We recommend that you do not touch this program unless you fully understand what you are doing. Changing something in this program could mean Windows stops working properly. It is where a lot of system settings are stored. Sometimes information stored here is uninstalled and sometimes it is not. You can choose to remove information at your own risk. Generally it is not necessary to remove these settings at all. Exceptions have been known however.
